Zero Waste First: Infinity Recycling.

Zero Waste First: Infinity Recycling.

In 2020, we pioneered an industry first recycling technology with our most iconic moisturizer: Global Protection Day Cream. And, on our journey to Zero Waste by the end of 2021, we’ve included it in our all-new Radiance Brightening Dark Circle Eye Cream. It’s still only the second time Infinity Recycling tech has been used in the beauty industry, and we’re here with a quickfire Q&A to tell you all about it.

Why is Infinity Recycling ground-breaking?

Through infinity recycling we are able to fully regenerate plastic waste making recycled plastic identical to virgin. This is the first time that certified recycled plastic coming from this technology has been used in premium beauty packaging and is opening a future where plastic can be infinitely recycled without losing its quality, hence the name Infinity Recycling.

Has REN Clean Skincare developed this alone?

We’ve partnered with SABIC and Aptar to pioneer the use of this new certified recycled plastic. SABIC is a global leader in pioneering advanced technologies to facilitate circular reuse of the planet’s natural resources.

How does it work?

Our partners use heat and pressure to break down plastic waste into its molecular building blocks. This delivers a high-quality transparent plastic (e.g. removing impurities or colorants) that is identical to virgin plastic and can be used for wide uses including foods packaging.

How does Infinity Recycling differ from existing recycling?

Existing recycling methods are mechanical - this means plastic waste is cut into small pieces, washed and remelted. Infinity Recycling uses heat and pressure to break down plastic waste. They're different recycling methods that complement each other.

What are the advantages of using Infinity Recycling?

This groundbreaking recycling technology allows us to recycle mixed plastic waste otherwise destined for incineration or landfill. Infinity Recycling also delivers a high-quality transparent plastic that is identical to virgin plastic.

Does this pack cost more?

While this premium material does cost more, this won’t be passed on to the consumer. As more companies join in using the technology, the hope is that this sustainable recycling technology will become less expensive in the future - so fingers crossed.
