Why Can’t You Use Retinol During Pregnancy?

Traditional retinols are the most evidence based anti-aging skin care products that we have in our armory– the vitamin A derivatives are renowned for targeting blemishes and the signs of aging but it is well known that traditional retinols are not safe for use during pregnancy, and this is because it is a key component in the developing fetus. Too little or too much Vitamin A and the results and this delicate process can be disrupted. It is therefore always a good idea to check what you are using and any products containing retinoids including retinyl acetate, retinyl linoleate, retinyl palmitate and retinyl propionate should all be discontinued if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. It is even more important to stop using any supplements containing vitamin A as these are even more likely to interfere with this delicate process.
